AppleInsider is reporting that according to their internal sources at Apple, the long time rumored apple-ultra-slim-sub-notebook will make its debut at the Macworld Expo (Jan/2008). I believe the rumors are true, so I am not buying a new laptop this year. Tickets for San Francisco, please.
Last week I’ve checked Amazon for the new Nokia N95 8GB black (a.k.a the iPhone killer) and the price was U$ 699.05 with a delivery wait of 2-4 weeks. Yesterday the price hiked to U$ 745.00 and there were only 3 units remaining. 24 hours later the 3 units were sold and the price has reached U$ 849.99!
The image above shows exactly how Apple Inc. sees the world. If you mark on the map (in red) the countries where they operate an online store and have an active presence in retail, you will notice that they are ignoring 90% of the “rest” of the world.
I really don’t understand why Apple is not paying more attention to emerging economies like the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) block. They also ignore entirely continents like South America, Africa and most of Asia.
Oh! Wait! Actually Steve Jobs’ company runs an office in Brazil, and they also keep an outdated web site in Portuguese. So, why I have to wait 2-3 months to get the latest releases? Why Leopard is just arriving Nov 16th at my “authorized retail” ? Why I have to pay 2 times the street price plus taxes? Well, I truly believe no one can answer all this questions. Apple won’t because they doesn’t care at all.
I really don’t get why Apple is trying so hard not to sell iPhones. Now they decided that you can’t buy more than two units at a time and you have to pay with a
credit card. Stupid.
I know that the iPhone is far from being the best cell phone ever made, and it lacks a lot of basic features (recording videos, mms, free customs ring-tones) but it is an Apple product after all, and it causes a frisson by itself.
Apple could be making more cash if they stop with all this anti-sell techniques :
AT&T 2 years contract in U.S. ;
Orange 2 years contract in France ;
T-Mobile 2 years contract in Germany ;
O2 2 years contract in UK ;
€ 945 for an unblocked, contract free in France ;
Two units per person, per purchase ;
Credit cards only;
What’s next?
With all this restrictions Apple sold 1.4 million units. In my opinion Apple could have hit the 10 million mark by now if they cut all this crap and sell the thing for U$ 399, unblocked for any SIM card and available worldwide like any IPod.
If the new Nokia N95 8GB black costs less, it could became the real Iphone killer, eh?
